About Villa Monarca Tuscany
About Villa Monarca
Villa Monarca was built in the 1600s in the Leopoldina style with spacious rooms framed by large brick arches, thick stone walls and an impressive vaulted, brick ceiling on the ground floor. Throughout 2020 the villa interiors were restyled with many new bathrooms and furniture to offer a higher grade of living.
A Historical Leopoldina Home
Villa Monarca is a historical Leopoldina home, or casa leopoldina, a traditional rural farmhouse style unique to Tuscany, particularly in the Valdichiana region. These homes are named after Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany, who initiated significant agrarian reforms in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to modernize agriculture and improve rural living conditions.
The Leopoldina homes were built during this period as part of his efforts to incentivize farming families to settle in the countryside and cultivate the land more effectively. A key feature of the Leopoldina home is the central loggia or tower: A distinctive square or rectangular structure, providing panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
The Surrounding Area
Villa Monarca is ideally located for easy access to Siena and Florence, both just an hour away. You can also explore charming hill towns nearby: Montepulciano, famous for its delicious red wines, is only 15 minutes away; Cortona, the highest hill town in Tuscany, is a 30-minute drive; and magical Orvieto or peaceful Assisi are both about an hour away. Plus, Rome is just two hours from the villa.
Conveniently situated a few miles from the A1 highway, which runs north-south, and the Siena-Perugia road, this villa is a great base for travelers.
